February 10, 2021
To our Big Rock School Community,
A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within Big Rock School. As always, our thoughts remain with this individual and their family, we wish them a safe and speedy recovery.
Out of respect to privacy and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal health information of any individual. However, we are able to share that we learned of this positive COVID-19 case the morning of February 10, 2021. We understand that the individual was last in the school on Monday February 8, 2021.
Public Health, supported by Foothills School Division, continues to investigate and inform individuals who have been identified as being a close contact with this case. Public Health will follow up with affected individuals directly by email with mandatory self-isolation orders. Please review the information provided in the notice of COVID-19 to Staff, Students and Visitors in a School Setting.
Our school remains open to in-person learning, and we are working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff. We continue our focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 and have directed our custodial services team to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols of the school. This additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present along with our continuous attention to high touch areas and surfaces throughout the facility.
We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Daily Checklist. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.
The health and safety of our students, staff, and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing and supports are available. You are encouraged to visit our Parent Learning Link and Student Learning Link.
Please rest assured that we will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and the Medical Officer of Health in the Calgary Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal or myself with any questions you may have. Thank you for your continued support.
